Kaleidery - The GIC Photo Gallery

By Tony L. - Posted on 11 January 2009

The Photo Gallery is something that gave me fits from Day One. There's a ton of wonderful gallery-type web development software out there... but as savvy and technical as I can be, I must shamefully admit I suck at integration right now. More to the point: I don't have the time to learn a ton of stuff, so I can spend more time whittling choices down to what I want, to spend even more time figuring out what works, to spend more learning how to use the victor. Ugh! Long Story Short: I have ideas for this site; there are many things I want to pursue and share. I spent a bit of 2005 and 2006 documenting Urban Decay and Rural Ruin and want to get into that again, once I can display it on my terms. In the meantime this simple FastGallery will have to do.

By the way, this site's banners, up top? Cutom made by me, using photos I took. You might even find the originals buried here...

Here's a list of a few galleries I yarked up here. Clicking a section will take you to a page of thumbnails. Clicking on any thumbnail starts a slideshow from that point. There will be MANY more once I have time to index and tag all the photos appropriately... so check back!

  • 52 Cosmo
A 1952 Lincoln Cosmopolitan lay abandoned on the Pulaski/Lincoln county line in KY. (2006)
  • Atlantic City Haze
After an exclusive NIN club show at the House of Blues, I ventured out on the boardwalk at 2am on a November Friday. a late Atlantic storm had finally subsided. (2008)
  • Comair 5191
A somber visit to the memorial erected one day after a jet's failed, mistaken attempt to take off from the wrong runway in Lexington, KY; in a cruel twist of fate only the pilot survived. (2006)
  • Cruisin' 2008
A sampling of the 2008 cruising season in Central KY. Events shown include Somerset, Greensburg/Summersville, and Frankfort. On our first cruise we even made it into the official Somernites 2008 Powercruise gallery (out of over 1800 cars)!
  • Legends June 6 2006
Before he was outed as another bum juicer, Roger Clemens' return path to the majors started in Lexington, KY. The scene was electric! (2006)
  • NIN Lexington 2008
Lights in the Sky, courtesy Nine Inch Nails. Not only did I manage to sneak in a new full-size DSLR... I actually managed to figure out what I was doing with it, for once! (2008)
  • Old Crow Urban Exploration, Part I
Technically it's not really urban. But the abandoned Old Crow Distillery between Frankfort and Versailles, KY had a decidedly Urban Wasteland mystique about it. On the 4th of July, some friends and I snuck in before it was wiped away completely. (2006)
  • Railfanning
A selection of shots I've taken of and around railroads and related points of interest in Chicago, Kentucky, and Maryland since 2001...
  • Somernites Powercruise 2009
Threatening weather and a lousy economy couldn't keep the hardcore enthusiasts from rolling in the 2009 Somernites Powercruise! Unfortunately, when said weather eventually *acted* on said threat, over 1,500 cars fled the downtown area, cutting the Show & Shine portion to just 2 hours (instead of 6). Cruisin' still occurred on US27 strip later on though. Here's a few of the rides I snapped *before* the clouds unleashed.
  • Tyco Collection
Almost every freight car Tyco made in the 1971-1991 "Brown Box Era". And then some. Shazam!
  • Main Menu
Or if you prefer, a thumbnailed portal entrance to the GIC Gallery

  • Please note:At this time, some photos may be large (over 300K and up to 1MB) in filesize. As time allows I will optimize them for the site. The Legends and Tyco Galleries are already finished.
